Space Cubes Descent

is a peer to peer multi-player high flying space FPS.  In this game you shoot other players while flying around big metal cubes floating in space.

The levels are big enough so that the spaceships are dwarfed. However  you have a big zoom lens so your enemy combatants can not hide.

Space Cubes Descent does have a main server where players can find each other, however its only up when the game creators computer is turned on, I hope this starts to be all the time!

Space Cubes Descent is in a very early stage of development and is improving with new updates coming all the time , right now the game is good enough to be enjoyable and very playable. If the  server is not on or you have no one in the office to play with you can play against NPC’s.

About Running Space Cubes Decent:
The Game should work on all GTK based systems…
Available as Debian (*.deb) package That you can download from the bottom of this page.
Available languages: English – Hungarian

    v0.46 is released:

    v0.46

    - Bugfix: insane level bot are shooting accurately on all levels again.
    - Bugfix: level 25 bots does not disappear.
    - Max shield is shown.
    - New powerup: speed30
    - New powerup: dispeller
    - Bugfix: no more empty slot between the powerups when you have only one lasergun. Using the blank field you can have negative amount of lasers.
    - Cone-ray and dispeller powerups became center turret weapons, you can shot one with them from the center.
    - Maximum damage of a cone-ray increased from 300 to 450.
    - Invulnerability spark got better sprite.
    - Splashscreen. There are 4 more to come, if you throw me a nice screenshot from the game.
    - More saturate and better gamma stars to make constellations better recognizable.
    - New peer commands: /toggletopmist, /togglehud. See: importatant.txt

    v0.45

    - Bugfix: others saw you shooting from the wrong turret.

    - bugfix: size of level is fixed.
    - Spaceships can be upgraded to the infinity.
    - bugfix: bot shots doesn’t crash the game when they hit you after issuing /nobots.
    - printing text “offline” if you aren’t connected.
    - printing current zoom ratio.
    - game is restricted to single instance, no multiple instances can be run at a time.
    - 2+ statter serverstats icon’s frame is red not the text. It was confosing before.
    - pause key works again in single player offline mode.
    - bugfix: cloaking timer resets when you die.
    - Strength of lasergun increases by picking up more powerups of it.
    - bugfix: a forgotten initializing caused unpredictable initial zoom.

    I tried to make an rpm package but alien failed to create it. Also I’m not sure that the names of the package dependencies are match on another operating system.

    I think there is at least a program that can extract files from deb on OpenSuse. The dependencies are wxWidgets, OpenGL and OpenAL.

    - You can see the powerups if you are alone.
    - Smaller cubes to think movement is faster.
    - No slow down at sanctuary cubes.
    - Immediate 20% shield regeneration when you enter to the sanctuary cube.
    - No experience is given when you hit yourself
    - one new server.
    - High level projectiles doesn’t have fragmentation effect anymore.
    - Bots does not become stronger even you are online.
    - turning is not assigned to keys default.
    - projectiles are smaller.
    - basic projectiles are laserbolts instead of plasmaballs.
    - Cubes of the level are arranged along concentric spheres.
    - The smaller amount of players online the closer point to the center you respawn.
    - Bots don’t shot exploded ships anymore.

      I will make rpm packages when I upload the 0.44. I think deb to rpm program is available on your system too google for it.

    Space Cubes Descent v0.42 is uploaded.

    changes:

    - Help screen appears by pressing F1.
    - 0 XP packets aren’t sent.
    - Shots are optimized a bit.
    - You don’t need to gain experience in a normal way after an XP FLOW to level up.
    - In Settings/Network upload and download fields are disabled, they are not used.
    - Serverstats notifies if there are more than 2 serverstatters.
    - Under linux serverstats icon does not become transparent making clicking on it almost impossible.
    - /suicide command if you want to be a suicide.
    - Server detects router (not tested)
    - Bugfix: laser beams does not pass through cubes.

    - Bugfix: high level ships does not explode so big than in 0.40.

    - Floating numbers can be seen when you get experience.

    - When bots have the same level setting set bots get your level and max hp after their respawn.

    - Basic shot causes less damage if its shell hits you.

    - Bugfix: Names containing % are handled correctly.

    - Bugfix: If you are disconnect with connection reset, you can connect again, (not tested)

    - Top10 can be enumerated by the /toplist command.

    - In messageboxes words are wrapped correctly.

    - Connection process is written to the chat during connection.

    - Bugfix: 20 character long names does not crash the server anymore.

    I just happened upon this today doing a search for Descent for Linux. I see you have a deb link here. Is this available as an rpm or src that I can install on openSuSE? If it is right here and I missed it, I apologize.

      I’m sorry to say at present Space Cubes Descent only has a .deb or a windows .exe to be able to install.. I hope to have information soon to be able to install this game on other Linux operating systems or someone might contribute to the forums some install information for this game
