Glest 3D Real time Strategy Linux Game

Glest is set in a period that resembles the Middle Ages where two playable and customizable factions meet, Tech and Magic!  Glest has been around since 2004 however with the recent release of version 2.0 there have been a lot of good  changes, including new units, upgrades, and large expansion of the game. The new version now has online play mode over Internet or office lan. In addition, new features are continually added with the Glest Engine, or GAE.

The game play is similar to many other real time strategy games. You build  your main base area collect resources, and build war units. In Glest, the two teams you have are humans and mages. Humans include soldiers and archers. The mages have a small variety of different wizards and witches, as well as a big tree golem with very slow movement. There are different types of buildings, but not a lot else. No walls, no arrow firing castles.  The maps are limited and the game can turn boring quickly.

Graphics and Audio

Graphics are pretty good, 3D and textures are done well.  With a little more development of Glest, it could become pretty good game. The sound is good, with effects and  music. Glest has been put together by a group of friends that are continually working to improve the game.

Bottom Line

Glest is a game that would good try for all RTS game lovers.  The graphics, may impress you. The sound and music is also good.  However the gameplay is just a few steps away from being where it needs to, besides Glest is free!
