EgoBoo RPG-Action Linux Game

Egoboo is a pretty interesting Linux game so we will get right to the heart of how the gameplay is and what Egoboo’s features are. Egoboo does not have a world map but Instead, you select your locations from a list of available “modules”. When you finish a module, more modules are unlocked. allot of the modules are only accessible to characters that are saved, except the beginner modules that must be completed to create a new character that you use to play Egoboo.

Most of Egoboo  revolves around combat. There are various different types of weapons  do different types of damage. Each type of weapon has its own disadvantages and advantages, now depending on the type of damage the weapon deals out, it may be more or less effective against certain monsters.

In addition to normal melee distanced combat, some character classes can use magic. Magic is divided into two types, divine and arcane.

Egoboo has been in the makings for the last ten years and still considered an incomplete game. However the gameplay of this Linux game Egoboo is fun and ran flawlessly on my Ubuntu laptop. Give Egoboo a try and let me know what you think. I give it five stars and hats off to the developers.

It should probably be mentioned that you can get Egoboo either from the Synaptic Package Manager or from their website http://zippy-egoboo.sourceforge.net/index.html

I’ll probably leave another replay to this review after I’ve had the chance to play the game a bit.

Controls are a little awkward and the camera is a bit annoying. There’s nothing in-game to tell you what the controls are from what I could see. I eventually discovered a .txt file that tells you the controls and lets you customise them (only after I’d figured them out by bashing every key).

      /etc/egoboo/controls.txt

I also managed to run into a problem where the game windowed itself and locked out the keyboard and mouse. I had to solve this by resetting my computer.

The game itself seems interesting, but having to work out the controls like that as well as the crash are a bit off putting.
